FAQ

Questions garage-door owners actually ask.

Cost, setup time, what happens on a 2am emergency, and how the agent knows your prices. If something here is not answered, call the demo line at (952) 900-6778 and ask the agent directly.

The basics

What is garagelift.ai?

garagelift.ai is a 24/7 AI receptionist built specifically for garage-door repair and installation companies. It answers your inbound calls, books the job onto your live schedule, and dispatches the technician whose route fits best — so a call that would have gone to voicemail becomes a booked job instead.

It is software, sold by subscription. It is not a call center staffed by people, and it is not related to vehicle lifts or garage storage lifts despite the similar name.

Who is it for?

It is built for garage-door companies specifically, from single-truck shops to multi-technician operators. The difference from a general-purpose answering service is that the agent understands garage-door work: it knows the difference between a broken spring and a failed opener, recognizes when a door off its track is an emergency, and asks the questions a dispatcher would ask.

Does it handle installs as well as repairs?

Yes. The agent works from your own service list, so it books whatever you sell — repairs, opener replacements, and new door installations alike. Quoting rules for each are drawn from the pricing documents you provide during setup.

How is this different from a traditional answering service?

A traditional answering service takes a message; garagelift.ai books the job. Instead of handing you a callback list to work through in the morning, it checks your live schedule during the call, books the appointment, assigns the technician whose route fits best, and notifies your crew — so the caller hangs up with a confirmed time slot rather than a promise that someone will get back to them.

Can it really answer 10 calls at the same time?

garagelift.ai answers up to ten simultaneous calls, within the same flat price. This is the point at which no amount of hiring competes: one receptionist takes one call at a time, so matching ten concurrent callers would mean ten people on the payroll at peak. Your bill does not change when a windstorm triples your call volume.

Is this custom-built or a template I configure myself?

It is built for your shop by us, before it takes a single call. Your pricing, warranties, brands, service-area ZIP codes, schedule and on-call rota are loaded in during setup, and the agent is constrained to answer from them. You are not handed a dashboard and left to write prompts — the build is the service.

Pricing and terms

How much does an AI receptionist for a garage-door company cost?

garagelift.ai costs $199 per month for Standard, $399 per month for Professional, and $699 per month for Enterprise, each with a one-time $200 setup fee. Paying annually removes the setup fee entirely and saves roughly 12% — $2,099, $4,199, or $7,349 per year. Support and monitoring are included in every plan, and there are no per-call or per-service fees.

What is included in the free month?

The entire system is built, launched, and run live with your real customers for a full month before you pay anything. There is no deposit and no setup fee to start. If you decide it is not for you at the end of the month, you walk away owing nothing.

Are there per-call or per-minute charges?

No. Every plan is a flat monthly or annual price with no per-call, per-minute, or per-booking charges. Your bill does not change when call volume spikes during a storm or a cold snap.

Am I locked into a contract?

Monthly plans can be cancelled at any time. Annual plans are billed for the year in exchange for waiving the $200 setup fee and a roughly 12% discount. Either way, the free month comes first, so you see how the system performs on your own call volume before committing.

Which plan do I need?

Standard suits a shop whose main problem is that calls go unanswered. Professional adds route-aware dispatch, after-hours emergency routing, live transfer to your office and the operations dashboard, which is what a team with technicians in the field needs. Enterprise adds AI quality review on every call, a self-improving lessons-learned loop and returning-caller recognition, for operators who want the system to keep getting better on its own.

How does the cost compare to hiring a receptionist?

A full-time receptionist costs roughly $46,000 a year once employer taxes and benefits are added, and covers 2,080 of the 8,760 hours in a year. garagelift.ai Standard is $2,099 a year and covers all of them, which works out to about $0.48 per covered hour against $22.12 — roughly 46 times less, and about $41,800 a year back in the business. The full breakdown, with sources, is on the vs. hiring a receptionist page.

Setup and going live

How long does it take to get set up?

A garagelift.ai system is typically live on your existing business number in about two weeks. That covers building your knowledge base from your real pricing, warranty and service-area documents, connecting your schedule, configuring dispatch rules, and testing the agent on real call scenarios before it takes a single customer call.

Do I have to change my phone number?

No — the AI receptionist runs on the number you already advertise. Your existing number is forwarded to garagelift.ai, so every truck wrap, yard sign, and Google listing you have keeps working exactly as it does today.

What do you need from me to set it up?

Mainly the information your front desk already relies on: your pricing for common jobs, the brands you carry, your labor warranty terms, the ZIP codes you serve, your hours, and access to the schedule the agent should book against. The more precise those are, the more precisely the agent answers.

How much of my time does onboarding take?

The build is done for you rather than handed to you as a configuration task. Your involvement is mostly supplying the documents above and reviewing the agent's answers before it goes live, which is also the point at which most owners correct pricing details they had never written down anywhere.

How it handles calls

Can callers tell they are talking to an AI?

Most callers simply experience a receptionist who picks up on the first ring and knows the answers. The voice is natural and the persona is written to match how your shop talks. The difference customers notice is that nobody is ever put on hold, sent to voicemail, or told to call back during business hours.

What happens when someone calls with an emergency?

Emergencies are triaged on the call and routed to your on-call technician immediately. A door stuck open, a door off the track, or a car trapped inside the garage is recognized as urgent, flagged as such, and pushed straight to the person on call by text and email — rather than sitting in a voicemail box until morning.

What if two people call at the same time?

Both are answered. The agent handles many concurrent calls, so a second and third caller during a storm rush get the same immediate answer as the first. This is the situation where a single human receptionist necessarily loses jobs, because the second caller hears a busy tone or voicemail.

How does it know my prices, warranties, and service area?

The agent answers from your own documents, not from general knowledge. Your spring and opener pricing, the brands you carry, your labor warranty, and the ZIP codes you serve are loaded into a knowledge base during setup, and the agent is constrained to answer from it.

What happens if it does not know the answer?

It says so and takes a message rather than inventing one. Being constrained to your documents is what makes the agent safe to put in front of customers — a wrong quote confidently delivered costs far more than an honest hand-off.

How does it decide which technician to send?

On Professional and above, dispatch is route-aware: the agent assigns the technician already working nearest the new job rather than the next name on a list. Less windshield time between calls means more jobs completed in the same day.

Can it transfer a call to my office?

Yes, on Professional and Enterprise. Live transfer hands the caller to your team when a conversation genuinely needs a person, so the AI handles the routine volume without becoming a wall in front of your business.

Your data and reporting

Do I get to see what was said on each call?

Every call is recorded, transcribed and summarized on every plan. Professional adds a live operations dashboard showing bookings as they happen, and Enterprise adds a call drill-down console with AI quality review on every call plus a daily report emailed to the owner.

Does it recognize repeat customers?

Returning-caller recognition is included on the Enterprise plan, so a customer calling back is greeted in the context of their previous jobs rather than starting from scratch.

How is my data and my customers' data handled?

What this website collects, and the privacy rights you have, are set out in full in the privacy policy. Handling of your customers' call data is covered in the agreement we put in place before the system goes live — ask about it on the demo call.

Still deciding? Try it for a month, free.

We build and launch the whole system first — no deposit, no setup fee to start. Run it live with your own customers for a full month, then decide. Walk away and you owe nothing.
